Sovereign Foods has a proud history of chicken farming in the Eastern Cape, dating all the way back to 1948. The company was started as a family business in the Rocklands Valley near the town of Uitenhage and over time grew into a fully-fledged and integrated poultry business. To this day the entire operation is still based in and around the Rocklands and Uitenhage region.In 1991 the company was sold to an investment group and subsequently listed on the JSE. Since becoming a public company Sovereign Foods has seen several periods of remarkable financial performance.
