The successful family business attracted the attention of Massmart, the second largest distributor of consumer goods in Africa and by 2003, a deal was signed which transferred ownership to the retail group and created Massbuild. Once Massbuild had taken time to assess the home improvement and building materials market, it embarked on an aggressive acquisition trail which witnessed the purchase of 51 stores countrywide.
